Director of Education

Phil is Director of Education for BET, focused on building an education system that enables students to flourish, achieve highly and be game-changers.

Phil is known for his commitment to the pursuit of excellence in teaching and learning. He is responsible for BET’s approach to learning and teaching, the cross-Trust curriculum, its digital strategy and its Leadership Academy. He has led ambitious student expeditions to Greenland, Iceland and the remote Himalayas. A number of those expeditions involved significant research components, in conjunction with the University of Lancaster.

Phil is a council member of the Royal Geographical Society, a member of the Churchill Fellowship’s Advisory Board, a Churchill Fellow, a Sinnott Fellow and was STEM Leader of the Year in 2013. He is also a keen runner and cyclist with a particular interest in ultra-marathons and cycle touring in places with great coffee and cake.
