BBC South Today Film with Bohunt Students on the Future of Exams
Bohunt School and Bohunt Sixth Form welcomed BBC South Today as part of a feature exploring young people’s experiences of GCSEs and A Levels, and the wider national conversation about the future of assessment.
The team spoke with students about their experiences of this year’s exam season, as well as hearing from Phil Avery, Director of Education at BET. He shared the view that England’s current examination system, particularly GCSEs and A Levels, is too narrow, overly high stakes and insufficiently aligned with the skills young people need for the future.
Millie, an A Level student at Bohunt Sixth Form, reflected on being given the chance to share her perspective: “I found having my opinion heard very refreshing, as it feels like a lot of decisions about young people – particularly in education – are being made without our input. It was really lovely to feel heard and listened to.”
The visit provided a platform for Bohunt students to share their experiences and contribute to an important national discussion about how assessment can better support young people’s learning, wellbeing and future pathways.
