Steyning Grammar School Celebrates Positive Ofsted Report Under New Framework

Students and staff at Steyning Grammar School are celebrating the School’s latest Ofsted report, which recognises the School as a transformed, nurturing and successful environment.

Inspectors confirm that it meets the Expected Standard in every area of inspection, with no priority areas needing improvement. The report reflects significant improvements across the School, particularly in culture, engagement, leadership and the quality of education, and highlights a school where pupils feel valued and proud to belong. 

Headteacher Aidan Timmons said:

“We are delighted with this report. What matters most to us is Ofsted’s recognition that, at Steyning Grammar School, every child feels known, supported and able to succeed. 

The inspection reflects the dedication of our staff and the enthusiasm of our pupils in creating a caring and ambitious learning environment. We have much to celebrate: with an exciting new school building on the horizon and Ofsted-rated Outstanding boarding provision, we are proud to offer something truly special to our families at Steyning.”

The report highlights a number of strengths across the school, including:

• Pupils’ individual needs are a priority for staff at this caring school. 
• ‘We are not just a number’, one pupil said, a view shared by many. 
• The school is a calm environment. 
• Pupils are kind, courteous and have warm and positive relationships with staff. 
• Behaviour has ‘transformed’. 
• Leaders work tirelessly to drive improvement, creating a school where pupils feel safe, staff feel supported and valued, and a strong, ambitious curriculum – underpinned by character education – ensures students are well prepared for their next steps. 

The report also recognises the role of Bohunt Education Trust, noting that school leaders work closely with trust leaders to strengthen key processes and routines.
