Why Choose BET?

We believe in the transformative power of education.

BET’s ambition is to meet the needs of schools, whilst honouring our vision statement – which is that: the highest expectations, an ethos of ‘enjoy, respect, achieve’, unparalleled opportunity and highly effective teaching combine to develop students who are ‘game-changers’.

BET aims to give all our students an outstanding education and develop skills in the classroom and beyond – to help our young people flourish throughout their school career, and on into later life.

School leaders interested in joining BET will have carefully assessed the benefits and challenges of becoming an academy and joining a multi-academy trust (MAT). We appreciate that every school’s considerations will vary but the information below highlights the most common matters that arise during this process and how BET can help.

Autonomy of choice

At BET, we believe the most important element for schools seeking to join a MAT is a ‘fit’ between its and a trust’s vision and ethos.

We recognise that, whilst the Government encourages all schools to become academies, there is no requirement to do so. A school’s governing body, together with the school’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT) should conduct a process of due diligence with all potential MATs, to gain a clear understanding about strategy and values, governance, scheme of delegation and the Trust’s core offer of services and support.

We take this important process very seriously, and our Executive team will liaise closely with schools to answer questions, with the opportunity to collaborate with existing BET schools on their experience of being part of the Trust.

More efficient and effective funds allocation

Times are currently particularly tough for schools, financially. Now, more than ever, school leaders need to be focused on services that provide the best value for money, and comfortable that a trust’s services will be commensurate with its central service fee.

BET has a transparent and fair process of determining a school’s fee over time.

School improvement and strategic advice

With BET, schools are assured exceptional and genuine professional peer support, for both teaching and non-teaching staff. A school’s improvement needs can vary wildly, from needing to be full, to improving its reputation and/or financial management.

Within the BET core offer, not only will schools gain curriculum design support, they will receive backing for all key operational and strategic functions of schools: from management of human resources, statutory compliance, risk of health and safety, marketing and PR and capital investments.

Our network of subject directors (SD) and subject co-ordinators (SC), working with the Director of Education, ensures that teaching and classroom support staff across all BET schools are provided with the very highest quality collaboration, guidance and development.

Collaboration

Schools in the BET family contribute to and influence the Trust’s work, by encouraging school-to-school support. This allows staff and students broader opportunities in and outside school life.

BET also partners with independent schools and employers to provide exceptional opportunities for our young people.

Ofsted support and guidance

BET is proud of its schools’ track record of Outstanding and Good Ofsted judgements, and – while school improvement is not limited to Ofsted reports – BET provides dedicated and professional support in terms of preparation for inspection, including:

    • support in self-evaluation form completion

    • understanding the inspection framework

    • Trust Leader, (an experienced OI inspector himself) in attendance with Governance in Lead Inspector meetings

Opportunity to access capital bids

BET provides all its schools with the opportunity to bid for capital improvements via the ESFA.

Admission arrangements

BET offers its schools the opportunity to review their admission arrangements and admission numbers.

Retention and opportunity for staff across the MAT

BET staff are given opportunities for development through the BET Leaders’ Academy, as well as additional opportunity for progression across the Trust.

BET is focused on developing outstanding professionals: recruiting, sharing and keeping the very best staff.
